Hi and Welcome to Helen Cockrell on Aging Well! Thanks for stopping by. Here you’ll find information and advice that I hope you’ll find helpful if you’re a caregiver for an older relative or friend or if you yourself are entering what I call our “Greater Years”! Like my idol, Betty White, I still think of myself as a teenager (who’s just in some older person’s body) and I am going to live every day to its very fullest! I have many friends who are (or, I guess at this point in our lives, were) Air Force Fighter Pilots. Now, these are some of the greatest guys and gals I’ve ever had the privilege to know and work with. And they have a tradition when they join a new fighter squadron. They lay a $100 bill on the squadron bar and everyone knows that this bill is to “buy the bar” if that pilot ever takes off and doesn’t come back. The fighter pilot philosophy is that their life should be celebrated by their friends, not mourned. That’s what I want for my life and what I want for you and yours. A life to be celebrated and lived.
That’s what I hope to bring to this blog. Ideas and thoughts about how to LIVE our “Greater Years”! So that instead of accepting aging gracefully, we can skid into the graveyard, wine in one hand, chocolate in the other yelling, “Woo-hoo, what a ride!” Life is just too short to be lived tentatively.
